Weber Smokey Mountain 22 Cooker Re-engineering
The Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker 22 is an excellent smoker/cooker; however, modifications had to be made to make it more usable and versatile. Weber should add quality lockable wheels on each of the three legs of the cooker as well as a hinge to hold the lid upward to allow the user to check the product being cooked. The front access door should be made of quality stainless steel, and locking mechanisms should be engineered into the bottom or middle sections to lock the unit in place.

This is my second Weber smoker. The first one lasted 20 years. Can’t go wrong with these. Great construction and durability. Have done ribs and butts. Easy to set up and use.

Easy to use and set-up for cooking, heat regulates well and there’s lots of room on my 22”er for lots of meat. This thing makes the best slow cooked bbq I’ve ever eaten. Particularly good-Boston butt and pig ribs. We add sausage and taters in the bottom rack close to the finish. If you like bbq, you gotta try this smoker. Sturdy and well made.

Was nervous getting this because of never using one before. This thing is the easiest smoker I have used. Once you find the temp you want, it will hold all day!

antton25–34v170 F is okay for smoking, but not cooking.
I have followed the instructions & watched videos on how to use the 22" smoker, but I cannot get it hot enough to cook the meat at my desired temperature. I have been trying different types & brands of charcoal & have included hardwood, but have not found anything yet that will get the temperature up. I have had to smoke the meat & then bring it into the house to finish cooking it.

o I have been very happy with Weber Kettles over the years and the recent purchase of a Master Touch 22.
o I understand Weber has a great warranty and support team
- Bad News
o My new weber smokey mountain 22 had a defect center ring
o It would appear Weber does not have good quality control in place for the WSM, as the internet provides many instances of defective welds with the center section, usually quickly remedied.
o In my case, it’s been over a month, and I am being told it’s on back order and not provided with status updates. The last one basically said “don’t call us we’ll call you” ….when it ships.
- This survey is regards to the WSM, so I can only give it 2 stars

I bought the WSM to do comp chicken, it works great. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, the door is super flimsy. Replaced it with an aftermarket door.

This Weber grill smoker is top-notch. This is my second smoker grill by Weber the first grill lasted 15 years. Now the quality and I grill about 4 times a month. Love to smoke grill with my Weber product.

I'm giving two stars because at least support has been good. But I expect more from Weber, given the price I generally pay for it. Both the center ring and lid of my Smokey Mountain Cooker managed to warp after exactly one cook - a smoked turkey. Low temp cook (315° max), and the center ring and lid no longer fit together. I'm not sure exactly how that happened. The door feels cheap and doesn't fit great either, but that's the least of my concerns at this point. Support has replaced both the center ring and the lid, but I have been leery of using it, so I don't know how the replacements function yet. So overall I'm really disappointed.

This top-of-the-line Weber smoker is made of solid powder coated steel, which should provide years of trouble-free, rust-free cooking! I have tried wings and ribs, learning as I go. Next up will be a beef brisket! Many YouTube videos are available out there, specific to this smoker. The more you watch, the better you’ll get. The WSM is the missing piece to my bbq arsenal. It helped take this years Thanksgiving to another level. Last year I smoked the turkey with the 22” kettle, and it came out good, but a little too Smokey and took a lot of finessing. This year armed with the WSM the smoke was perfect, not overbearing, and easy to maintain. So far I’ve smoked chicken, turkey and pork butt on my WSM and am excited to keep my Smokey education going.

Great smoker for a relatively reasonable price. Bought 22” Weber Smokey Mountain to upsize from the 18” model I purchased 14 years ago. Love the upgrades as well (thermometer port) and the usual high quality construction.

I seriously cannot begin to describe how easy these things are to use! I now own two! The 57 and the 37. I take one camping and to my mates when I cook for them, and the other is for at home. Super easy to use and soooo good on fuel.
I set mine and can go shopping or go out for hours and not worry about it.

Prior to this I had only used pellet grills and my Weber kettle for smoking. The Weber kettle gave good flavor for smoking but fire management and space were an issue. This smoker fixes all of those problems. Ample space, easy fire management, a huge water pan that last the entire smoke. My only gripe is the door is about as cheap as they come. I’ve had to try and reshape it a few times when i unintentionally bent it. The door is also a source of heat loss because it doesn’t have a seal.
Improve the door and this is a 5 star smoker

This smoker performs very well, and in general it lives up to the hype. HOWEVER...whoever designed the method for rolling the edges of the sections had their head up their ash pit. The top fits INSIDE of the barrel, and the barrel fits INSIDE of the base. So whenever it rains, the base fills up with water. Why in the world isn't it the opposite, so that the top fits OVER the barrel, and the barrel fits OVER the base to shed rainwater instead of funneling into the base???? That seems so obvious that I can't believe they didn't account for that. (You can't put the cover on when there may be some hot coals left in the fire pit without risking a fire). Also, an ash-drop in the base would be handy, and a shelf for the fire grill above the water pan would allow the user to use the smoker as a barbecue grill as well.

I bought this a month ago and it was awesome during first usage. It is difficult to get enough airflow, but the door opening makes it somewhat easier. Likely my issue due to not having used enough coals off the start. The biggest issue is the door. The handle started to fall off the first use, and the door had to be shaped and is annoying how it has to come off completely whenever adjusting coals, but it does its job. Overall I would recommend the product as the issues are minimal and the heat regulation will be easier during more use,

Important to get the right amount of coals/wood at the beginning but also easy to add mid cook.
